Reliable igus® e-loop® Cable Routing for Bucket Wheel Excavator
A bucket wheel excavator operated by Holcim required a reliable cable management system.
The goal was to safely guide the cables from the conveyor section to the mobile excavator.
These heavy-duty cables needed to be flexible enough to move with the machine during operation.
In the past, the cables frequently dragged along the ground, leading to wear, damage, or freezing in cold weather conditions.
Today, arm-thick cables are safely and reliably routed using the igus® e-loop® cable carrier system.
This robust solution offers integrated strain relief and protects the cables from mechanical impacts, ensuring long-lasting performance even in harsh environments.

Like cable drums were unsuitable due to the constant movement of the excavator and spreader.
Instead, Holcim chose the e-loop®, a modular, heavy-duty energy chain that absorbs tensile forces, protects cables, and ensures a safe bend radius.
The 13.5-meter system was installed in just five hours and has been operating reliably since May 2020.
Following its success, Holcim is now expanding its use to other mobile transfer points.
